The Quest

Quested opened for business in May 1985. Founded by Roger Quested whose own career and passion can be traced back to ground breaking albums of the 1960s. Much of this rich history and broad knowledge gained during these years would ultimately find its way into every Quested product and form the foundations of who we are today.

Starting out at Olympic studios as a tape-operator in 1968, Roger Quested worked his way up the ranks until he was assisting Glyn Johns, who was producing Led Zeppelin’s debut album at the time. Moving on to Morgan Studios and now a mix engineer in his own right, Roger worked with artists such as Pink Floyd, Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, The Kinks, Rick Springfield, Camel, John Denver, Olivia Newton John, Johnny Hallyday, Sacha Distel, to name just a few.

Abbey Road, Trident, Townhouse, Sarm West

Whilst working as studio manager at Dick James Music studios (DJM) London, Roger built his very first monitoring system for the studio, the predecessor to the Q215. Soon after the instillation of this system and after receiving a request from Nick Sykes the owner of Rooster Studios to build a system for them a second system was built. More requests followed so Roger decided to leave DJM and opened Quested Monitoring Systems in 1985. The first system sold to Rooster Studios in London is still in operation today. 


Quested quickly gained a reputation for producing large format monitors with unrivalled accuracy and minimal listener fatigue. Pioneering the use of soft dome drivers and bucking the trend of compression drivers at the time. Early adopters included Abbey Road, Trevor Horn’s SARM West facility, Ridge Farm, Townhouse and Trident.

 

Life Long Associations

Quested hasn’t built a reputation from advertising or claims of re-inventing the wheel, but by recommendation from some of the world’s most respected artists, producers, engineers, broadcasting and recording studios who continue to trust Quested Monitors.

Trevor Horn and the team at Sarm Music Village added Q112s to the existing Q212 system in 2016 along with the relocation of a Q212 system to Sarm LA

What’s the score

Another lifelong association was formed in the early days of Quested that is still very strong to this day – Hans Zimmer.

Back in 1986, Roger built a system for a studio that Hans Zimmer and a business partner were building called Lillie Yard. Hans Zimmer continues working with Quested monitors at his facility, Remote Control located in California.

This facility, along with being a creative space for Hans Zimmer, is also a springboard for emerging talent that work on film scores with Hans, building an environment to encourage new talent and techniques in this creative field.

This strong association has led to a number of composers also adopting Quested in their own studios including Harry Gregson-Williams, Richard Harvey and most recently Harris Jayaraj in India. 

"I have used Quested speakers from about 1986. Roger actually rebuilt my studio in London. I've used his speakers ever since. When I moved to L.A., he again helped me design our studios. I think we have something   like 40 pairs of his speakers here at Remote Control Productions.             Sometimes I get tempted to try something new, but, within a short        time, we're back mixing with The Man's speakers. 150 movies later, still no complaints!"
